Truphone
The telephone company for the internet age
Founded in 2005, Truphone was the first company to bring true internet telephony (VoIP) to the mass mobile phone market, enabling users to make free and low-cost calls via wi-fi and the internet. As a pioneering virtual mobile network operator, its vision is to bring all the benefits of internet telephony to mobile users, globally.
Users of the Truphone service can make free calls to other VoIP users from their existing mobile phones, and make international calls at local rates.
Truphone was selected as a Technology Pioneer for 2007 by the World Economic Forum and in March 2007 was listed in the Red Herring 100 Europe, which recognizes Europe's most promising companies driving the future of technology. Based in London, the company has customers in over 200 countries.
Eden was seed investor in Truphone and continued to support the company in its Series A round financing in 2006, along with Wellington Partners, Independent News & Media and Burda Digital. Truphone received a follow-on investment in 2008 from Sloane Robinson Private Equity.
